HOT TOPIC

Wallaceburg Coun. Jeff Wesley said he got notice from the Ministry of Environment spills action centre about two spills into the St. Clair River by the City of Sarnia this month.

Wesley said partially treated sewage equaling 530 cubic metres or 1,400,000 gallons, spilled into the river.

While the story is just fresh from today, here is what people are saying on social media already:

Bill said on Facebook: “As former Chairman of GLSFC, I can tell you all major cities and towns all along the great lakes have their out dated sewage systems drain excess rain to enter into the sewage system, Sarnia, Port Huron, Detroit, Windsor, Toledo, Cleveland , Toronto and area. As a matter of fact, there are two places where it enters from Sarnia, near Canatara Park and at Ferry Dock Hill,, Hello,, nothing new here, and the repair bill here would be extreme and impossible to repair for both USA and Canada. But then again, in reverse, how many sewage systems return excess water from their treatment plants back into the our great lakes water shed. So their in be careful what dangerous chemicals you put down the household kitchen sink. And then there is the drainage act, field tiling and the loss of water retention from 78% to less then 10%.. The very reason we see our Great Lakes water levels rise and fall so rapidly.”

Donald said on Facebook: “its still unacceptable. Saying everyone else does it so we will too is wrong! Buy the backup generator if needed for outages when human life is at stake! What is the price of health to citizens?”

Caitlyn said on Facebook: “This is disgusting …”

Lance said on Facebook: “A lot of this sewage can be treated with riparian zones and fungi and are in other parts of the world, like Lake Champlain New York for example.”
