There will be a new lacrosse team in town next year.

Wallaceburg Lacrosse announced in a press release that the Sarnia Beavers lacrosse club will no longer continue operations into the 2015 season, as they are moving their organization to Wallaceburg.

After three seasons in Sarnia, the Beavers achieved two playoff appearances playing in the OLA Sr. B league.

At their past meeting, the Ontario Senior ‘B’ league approved the team to move down highway 40 to Wallaceburg.

According to the press release, this new Senior Men’s team will have some talented local players on the floor, including some National Lacrosse League talent.

Players such as Tye Belanger (Colorado Mammoth), Jimmy Purves (Toronto Rock), plus former NLL’ers Kevin Fines and Brad Holborough.

The team will also consist of players from the Sarnia, London and Wind‎sor area.‎

Graduating players from local Junior B teams will be able to continue their lacrosse careers.

“With a new team, a new atmosphere, comes a new identity,” read the press release. “The team is looking for support from the community. A team name and head coach position need to be chosen. The Beavers name will not stay with the team in Wallaceburg. We are open to suggestions of a new nickname at this time.”
