The Wallaceburg Rotary Club is set to make a huge contribution towards healthcare in the community.

During their regular meeting coming up on Thursday (Oct. 16), the Wallaceburg club will hand out a total of $75,000 to three new doctors.

Dr. Naveed Hassan, Dr. Muhammad Afzal and Dr. Rizwan Muhammad and their families will be in attendance at the meeting, along with Michele Grzebien-Huckson, executive director for the Foundation of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

“Doctor recruitment has been a focus in Wallaceburg,” said Susan Londry, president of the Wallaceburg Rotary Club. “We’ve needed doctors here in Wallaceburg. Our board has approved the $75,000.”

Robin Southgate, a Wallaceburg Rotarian, said the donation is coming from the Rosemary Miller Trust fund.

“We’re very lucky to have them here,” he said.

Southgate added, having quality healthcare in the community helps entice new business into the community.

All three of the new doctors practice out of the Wallaceburg Community Medical Centre on McNaughton Avenue, as part of the Chatham-Kent Family Health Team.

The Chatham-Kent Family Health Team announced last week that they have raised a total of $150,000 of their $200,000 to cover expansions and renovation costs of their McNaughton Ave. facility.
