Consistency is the key in everyday living

I read a quote recently that describes perfectly the secret to success in the everyday matters of daily living.

It went like this: “Consistency requires discipline. Force yourself out the door.”

We often think in terms of big events, quantum leaps that gain a lot of ground in a short period of time.

This does happen, mind you, but when it comes to basic, everyday living, consistency is the key.

Of course, it takes discipline to stay consistent.

If you don’t believe me just ask any athlete, like Shaun Suisham, or a musician in an orchestra, or even a teenager who needs to keep their room clean!

I go running each morning whether I feel like it, or not.

Sometimes accomplishing a task when we don’t feel like it brings a breakthrough in our ability to stay consistent.

Jesus knew about consistency and the discipline it took to get Him there.

Mark 1:35 says, “Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.”

If you’re like me, there are days when you hit the ground with both feet running, but then there are also days when you simply have to force yourself out the door.

It is on those days when ground is gained on the war with being consistent.

String a bunch of those days together and you become battle-tested.

So, what are you waiting for?

Set the alarm and determine to get out there.

In the long run you’ll be glad that you did!
