A Wallaceburg lawyer is set to take over for a fellow local lawyer, who is retiring.

Tom McGregor, of Hyde, Hyde, and McGregor, will be taking on the clients of William Bowsher, of Bowsher and Bowsher Law Firm.

“As of December 31, 2014, I plan to retire,” Bowsher said in a letter sent to the Sydenham Current. “Kathy, Paula and I would like to thank each of our clients, especially those who have become our friends. I would like to assure you that your files will be left in good hands.”

McGregor told the Sydenham Current he has had a close relationship with Bowsher throughout the years.

“It started a long time ago when I first practiced law and when I came back home to Wallaceburg to set up practice,” he said. “I moved in and rented space from him. So from the very beginning of my career, I’ve been associated in some fashion with Bill.”

McGregor added: “We were in a building on Camp Street together and then on Dufferin Avenue and then I came here with Garbutt Hyde in 1992, he went to the Burgess office in about 1997. We’ve had a close relationship, we’re friends. I rented space and we were in the same office for many years.”

McGregor said taking over Bowsher’s clients makes perfect sense.

“It seemed to be a natural,” he said. “He’s reached an age where he wants to move on and move into retirement.”

McGregor said any of Bowsher’s clients won’t notice any hiccups.

“It’s important to know that his files, I’ll have custody of the files, so the clients know in order to get a hold of them or to get their file, they can contact my office,” he said. “We’ll retain his telephone numbers at least for the interim. For a time being, both offices will be open. There will be no change, except the person they may see will be me instead of Mr. Bowsher.”

McGregor said the plan is to move into Bowsher’s office at 218 Duncan Street.

“That’s the plan now,” he said. “We’re going to do some renovation work in the Bowsher offices over the course of the next few months and our current plan is to move that way. You never know what could happen, but that is the plan today.”

McGregor added: “If people have concerns or want to know what is happening, they can contact either my office or use Bill Bowsher’s telephone numbers as well.”

All the changes come into effect in the new year.
