The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a police pursuit early this morning.
Shortly after 2:00 a.m. an officer on general patrol observed a man driving his vehicle erratically westbound on Longwoods Roads.
The officer activated his emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the vehicle.
The man accelerated and was paced on Grand Avenue East in Chatham driving 140km/h which is a posted 50km/h zone.
The man failed to stop and turned right onto St. Clair Street where he continued at speeds of 90km/h.
As officers attempted to bring the motor vehicle to a safe stop for public safety reasons, the man swerved and struck a cruiser.
The man made an abrupt turn in a parking lot where he again drove his motor vehicle into the side of the cruiser in an attempt to flee.
Officers surrounded the man and he was ordered to exit his vehicle.
The man locked the doors to his vehicle and refused to comply.
Officers broke the driver’s window and physically removed the man from his vehicle.
No one was injured.
Total damage to the cruiser was estimated at $100.
The 25-year-old Windsor man has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to stop for police and resist arrest.
He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
