Love is in the air

valentines love

From the Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

Back on October 10, 1987 I was standing up in my older brother’s wedding.

The song they chose for their first dance was, “The Power of Love” sung by Laura Branigan.

Now into their 28th year of marriage their love is still strong.

In a few days sales of red roses, chocolates, and greeting cards will soar.

Restaurants will do a brisk business as reservations fill up for a table for two.

Some men will even try their hand at poetry (okay, so not everything’s a slam-dunk on Valentine’s Day!).

Nevertheless, we tend to go out of our way every 14th of February to say, “I love you!” to the one we adore.

My wife and I have traditionally taken turns organizing a nice, romantic evening each year to mark the occasion.

It is a reminder of the vows we made to each other on our wedding day, which came with an important pre-nuptial agreement.

I would marry Ruth and Ruth would marry me on one condition: that we were second on the list of who we loved most.

Topping the list for each of us, without any exception, was the Lord Jesus.

That was the best decision we could ever make to keep the fires of love burning all these years.

God sent His valentine, Jesus, to the world He loved and now we have the opportunity to show love to the ones we care about, too, and anyone else who needs it.

With Valentine’s Day coming up in just a few days love is definitely in the air.

I would recommend taking some time to thank the One who loved you so much that He cared to send you His very best.

Enjoy your Valentine’s Day, everyone!
