Charges laid after copper wire theft

A London woman is facing charges after allegedly swiping some copper wire.

Police say on March 21, around 8:15 a.m. the Chatham-Kent police attended an address on Fairview Line just outside of Chatham regarding an alarm at a communication tower site.

While on site it was discovered that a hole had been cut in the chain link fence surrounding the property and wire had been removed from a pillar.

When officers searched the area they located a woman hiding on the site with a duffle bag containing copper wire and a pair of bolt cutters.

As a result a 27-year-old London woman was arrested and charged with Theft and Possession Under $5,000, Mischief Under $5000.00 and Possession of Break-in Instruments.

She was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Total damage to the property was approximately $350.00.
