On April 11th, 2015 at about 3:00 p.m. members of the Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were requested to attend the Corunna OPP Detachment as a member of the community had discovered what was believed to have been a military grade hand grenade.

The responding OPP members attended the Corunna Detachment and created a safe perimeter around the alleged grenade.

Upon further investigation and in consultation with the OPP Tactical Rescue Unit and Emergency Disposal Unit, it was determined that the item in question was a butane lighter in the shape of a grenade.

The OPP will utilize all resources to ensure the safety of their members and the communities in which they police.

The OPP encourage their policing and community members to make notification of potentially dangerous situations as soon as possible in order to ensure public safety.

The OPP ask that if anyone finds what they believe to be a military grade ordinance or a potential explosive device; to leave the device where it was found and to contact the OPP as soon as possible.
