Some improvements to the Dresden Arena and a light replacement at Steinhoff Park in Wallaceburg are among the lifecycle projects being proposed in the community.

Staff has listed a number of projects to be completed at Chatham-Kent’s arenas, parks and pools this year.

Through the parks lifecycle process, a light standard at Steinhoff Park in Wallaceburg is set to be replaced.

The north east soccer field light standard was damaged due to wind on March 30.

The incident caused the light standard to fall onto the fence at the park, sending shattered glass all over the ground.

Here is our story and photos.

Staff is recommending to work with with Musco Sportfield Lighting to replace the light.

Cost is estimated at $26,000.

Administration is also recommending a series of upgrades for Dresden Arena.

Some of the upgrades include:

– Replacing the existing original vinyl flooring with ceramic tile: The existing floor is 33 years old and is cracked and broken, and staff can no longer match tiles. Cost is estimated at $28,000

– New accessible doors: The doors must be replaced to meet requirements and make the facility accessible to all
patrons. Cost is pegged at $27,500

– Eaves troughs replaced: The 34-year-old eaves troughs are rusted and leaking. Cost is estimated at $6,000

– Arena Hall dishwasher replacement: The machine is aged and worn, and no parts are available. Cost is pegged at $5,000.

Wallaceburg Memorial Arena is set for some dressing room upgrades, including some electrical work and a new ventilation unit. The price tag on this work is estimated at $6,050. The arena is also set for a new accessibility ramp ($1,895) and a new hot water storage tank in the upstairs electrical room (1,950.)

The Dresden Pool is set to have the entire pool basin painted and have a large crack in the deep end repaired ($ 7,000.)

The existing entry doors are set to be replaced at the Sydenham District Pool ($3,300.)

Glen Mickle Park in Wallaceburg is set to receive four new doors on the pavillion ($4,750.)

Council will vote on the proposed projects at Monday’s (April 20) council meeting.
