Chatham-Kent Police receives numerous calls for service regarding the use of fireworks every year.

The Municipal by-law states, “The setting off of Consumer Fireworks as set out in the provisions of this by-law, is hereby prohibited except on Victoria Day, Canada Day, or such day as is proclaimed by Municipal Council as suitable for celebration, and the preceding three (3) days and the following day in each case.”

Police officials say simply put, fireworks can be used three days leading up to Canada Day and the day after.

No fireworks should be discharged after the hour of 11 p.m. local time.

The By-law can be found in its entirety at: www.chatham-kent.ca/SiteCollectionDocuments/bylaws/144-2014%20Fireworks.pdf
