It was a record breaking day at the Dresden Terry Fox Run on Sunday.
Cindy Brewer told the Sydenham Current that 383 people participated and volunteered at the event and $37,429.10 was raised.
“Yes, that is a record year in Dresden,” Brewer said.
Dresden celebrated their 20th year this year for the local run, and the 35th overall for the event nation-wide.
Deb Stevens, one of the organizers, said the fundraising total gets Dresden closer to the $500,000 mark in their events history.
“We only have 2,700 people who live in this town,” she said. “This puts us so close for reaching a half million for Dresden in our 20 years.
Stevens said they usually have a final total by week’s end.
“A bit more trickles in, and we need $41,000 to be at a half million,” she said. “It will be close.”
Stevens said Sunday’s event had some unique aspects to it, as the Dresden volunteer firefighters pulled an antique truck through the route, three women completed a 35k run from Chatham to Dresden, and a girl cut her hair for a wig donation.
