Wallaceburg farm, driver facing charges

Agriculture - Chatham-Kent (26)

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Chatham-Kent responded to a report of a semi-tractor trailer hauling tomatoes that had lost one of its wheels.

The tractor trailer was travelling southbound on Highway 40 in the area of Brook Line, Chatham-Kent. The right side dual wheels separated from the right side of the trailer rolled across the rear of the trailer, across the northbound lane and came to rest in the east ditch.

OPP officers caught up to the trailer on Richmond Street in the City of Chatham and escorted it off the roadway.

With the assistance of the Ministry of Transportation Commercial Motor Vehicle inspector, the tractor trailer was inspected.

As a result, the driver, a 39 year old Sarnia man, was charged with Drive Commercial Motor Vehicle Without Required Inspection and Drive Commercial Motor Vehicle With a Major Defect In It or In Drawn Vehicle.

The owner, a farm from Wallaceburg, was charged with Wheel Separation-Commercial Motor Vehicle and Fail to Ensure Performance Standards are Met.

No other vehicles were involved and there were no injuries sustained.

  1. Good!!!
Wish they would charge the two nuts this morning at 6:00 am hauling dual tomato trailers in the freakin fog without any lights, just a slow moving sign on the trailer. Not the first one I’ve seen driving in the fog without lights,.
