Forklift driver charged with impaired driving

At 12:45 a.m. this morning, police responded to the area of Delaware Avenue in Chatham in regards to a traffic complaint.

A man was operating a forklift on the roadway with no functioning lights.

An officer located the man travelling eastbound on McNaughton Avenue.

Through investigation, the officer believed the man was driving the fork lift while under the influence of alcohol.

The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters for breath tests.

The 24-year-old Chatham man has been charged with impaired driving, driving while disqualified and two counts of driving while under suspension.

He will be released when sober.

Police continue to investigate where the man acquired the fork lift.
