Voting open for Mayor’s Heritage Preservation Awards

The time has come again to celebrate Chatham-Kent’s culture and heritage.

Online Voting opened November 23, 2015 for the 12th Annual Mayor’s Heritage Preservation Awards People’s Choice Award.

The Mayor’s Heritage Preservation awards publicly recognize property owners who undertake best-practice preservation, restoration, or renovation work that reflects a commitment to the quality and characteristics of a heritage property. The awards were started by Chatham-Kent Council in 2004 and are organized annually by the Municipal Heritage Committee.

Eligible work includes the preservation and restoration original building features using original or replicated materials to emphasize the structures historical characteristics; the renovation of an older building using architectural styles and materials that complement a buildings history; or the preservation of fences, gardens, trees and landscaping.

Anyone can vote for the People’s Choice award winner through online voting starting on November 23. Voting will continue to December 31, 2015.

The Mayor’s Heritage Preservation Awards will be presented by Mayor Randy Hope at an upcoming Chatham-Kent Council meeting.

Everyone is invited to view all of the properties nominated for a Mayor’s Heritage Preservation Awards and vote for the favourite on the Municipality of Chatham-Kent website at www.chatham-kent.ca.

In Wallaceburg, the home of Joanne Morris, 343 Gillard Street, Wallaceburg, is up for the People’s Choice.

“Ongoing improvements and maintenance of this 1910 Arts and Crafts style home,” read the summary of the nomination.
