Police are investigating a suspicious fire at an apartment complex in Cedar Springs, which forced the evacuation of the residents.
Police officials say shortly after 2:30 a.m. this morning, emergency crews responded to a structure fire on Charing Cross Road in Cedar Springs.
The building was evacuated as the fire department extinguished the blaze.
Through investigation, police learned that seven of the eight units were currently occupied.
Police officials say no one was injured and damage is estimated at $80,000.
“The fire is believed to be suspicious and remains under investigation,” police officials said.
Chatham-Kent Fire Department officials say firefighters from Blenheim responded quickly to the blaze.
“Firefighters took quick action to extinguish the fire and fire was contained to (the) room of origin,” CKFD officials stated.
