Do you like music?
Do you like to sing?
Do you like to listen to people sing?
I’ve been lucky enough to have been judging the singing contests at the local CBD on Dufferin Ave for several years now….and am constantly amazed by some of the talent.
Many folks in the area don’t seem to understand it, though.
Did you know that the CBD hosts FOUR singing contests each year?
The fall “Star Search” if for adults, then comes the winter “Over 50” competition – that’s followed by the Youth contest (2 categories) in the spring… and, last year, they added a duet competition, one day only, but a hoot-and-a-half to watch and to be part of. (I entered that one 🙂 )
Did you know that there are cash prizes?
First place in the adult contest? A very cool $1,000!
You might not know that the CBD attracts singer from all over, not just from here. They come from London, Sarnia, Windsor, and even further!
All of the contests are fun to watch… and, as I said, you might be as amazed as I often am by the quality of the talent.
On more than one occasion lately, I’ve had to avoid jumping to my feet after a performance and bursting into cheers and applause – but I guess that I shouldn’t.
As the DJ and MC Earl Holley says frequently: “It’s the best free show around.”
No charge to enter as a singer, no charge to attend. Like I said… FREE!
Keep track of the dates on Sydenham Current, look in the local newspaper, or visit the CBD Facebook page for more information.
