Wallaceburg and Walpole Island are under “extreme risk” for wildland fires, according to Natural Resources Canada.
The federal ministry updated a “Fire Danger” map on their website on Monday, which showed an upgraded risk to the two communities.
Officials said a brush fire in these areas could be “fast-spreading” and “very difficult to control.”
Other parts of Chatham-Kent are also included in the “extreme risk” category, while Dresden sits in the “high risk” zone and Mitchell’s Bay in the “low risk” category. Much of Windsor-Essex is under “extreme risk”, while Lambton County is “high risk.”
“Fire Danger is a relative index of how easy it is to ignite vegetation, how difficult a fire may be to control, and how much damage a fire may do,” Natural Resources Canada officials say.
