The Wallaceburg Lakers have named their team captain for the upcoming year, and also announced they’ve signed an assistant coach.

Lakers officials say they will lean on the leadership of Colton Coates this coming season by making the 6’ 8” defenseman the team’s captain.

“Naming Colton as our captain was an obvious choice,” stated Joe Byrne, head coach.

“His presence around this group of young men is a fortune and we are looking forward to having him lead our troops.”

Coates, who played Jr. A in the United States last season, comes to the Lakers with the reputation of being a teammate who can steady younger players on and off the ice.

The Lakers also announced that Chatham native Ryan Hope is joining the club as an assistant coach.

Hope has come up through the Chatham ranks as both a player and coach and will lend his abilities to the Lakers for the 2016-17 season.
