Hot and humid conditions are expected to persist today, with daytime high temperatures once again in the low to mid thirties. Humidex values will reach the upper thirties to low forties this afternoon.
Another warm and muggy night is expected tonight with lows in the low to mid twenties.
A cold front, with scattered showers and thunderstorms, is expected to move slowly southward across the regions tonight, finally reaching areas near Lake Ontario and Lake Erie by Saturday morning.
As a result, temperatures on Saturday will be a few degrees cooler across most areas, bringing this heat wave to an end.
Heat illnesses include heat stroke, heat exhaustion, heat fainting, heat edema (swelling of hands, feet and ankles), heat rash and heat cramps (muscle cramps).
Drink plenty of liquids especially water before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration.
Take a break from the heat by spending a few hours in a cool place. It could be a tree-shaded area, swimming facility or an air-conditioned spot such as a public building, shopping mall, grocery store, place of worship or public library.
Never leave people or pets in your care inside a parked vehicle or in direct sunlight.
Prepare meals that don’t need to be cooked in your oven.
Block sun out by closing awnings, curtains or blinds during the day.
