Do you get an ‘A’ for attitude?

From the Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

I read a funny quote recently that someone sent me by email.

It went like this: “Don’t confuse my personality with my attitude. My personality is who I am. My attitude depends on who you are!”

I found this observation rather amusing, and also feel it is true in what we see in day to day life.

However, I must disagree with the final conclusion stated here.

Attitude, far from depending on who the other person is, or who you think they should be, is achieved by what YOU bring to the table.

Attitude, according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is defined as “a feeling or way of thinking that affects a person’s behavior.”

In other words, you can adjust to a person you don’t like by deciding you will not allow their annoying personality or negativity to affect your own attitude.

Simply choose the attitude you want to have and don’t let others change that.

For instance, I have a nephew who hates Mondays.

He loves the weekend, but when Monday comes he posts things on Facebook like, “Hello, Monday, welcome to my fist!”

I will usually respond with something positive like, “It’s a new day to enjoy and Jeopardy comes on in only a few hours!”

I try to decide in the morning when I wake up that I am going to enjoy my day.

I accomplish this goal primarily through prayer.

I simply thank God for the day ahead and ask Him to help me be a blessing to someone and to enjoy this day that He has given me.

It’s so simple, yet it really works.

So don’t let negative people or Mondays get you down.

Decide now that you will ask God to help you change your attitude, and then you won’t blame your mood swings on others.

You may be surprised at the transformation that takes place!
