The recent 60th birthday celebration for Bob Sterling – called ‘Bobtoberfest’ – raised a significant amount of funds for the Wallaceburg food bank.

Melissa Sherk, Sterling’s daughter, said the event was held at the Clubhouse at Baldoon in Wallaceburg.

“In lieu of gifts we asked guests to participate in raffles, 50/50 draws, and games and then all of the money that we made from that we were in turn able to buy food,” Sherk told the Sydenham Current.

“All together it was about $2,000 worth of food that we are going to be able to give directly to the Wallaceburg food bank. We didn’t want to just give out cash because we didn’t want it to end up somewhere other than the community in which it was intended for. So that is why we went to the grocery store and made some big grocery trips.”

Sherk added: “Hopefully we will be able to feed a lot of people. That is what it’s really about.”

A donation was made at the Wallaceburg branch of the Salvation Army last week.

Sherk said they are looking at making the fundraiser an annual event.
