Wallaceburg girl donates her hair

Wallaceburg’s Layla Olah wanted to do something useful with her hair. So for the second time in her life, the seven-year-old donated her locks to the Beautiful Lengths program by Pantene.

Steve Olah, Layla’s dad, said his daughter got her first haircut when she was four or five years old.

“Her first haircut she donated to Pantene and that was all her doing, her idea,” he said.

“She wanted to do something useful with her hair. She is seven now and her hair was very long again. She wanted to donate it again. So we got it cut last week and we took 10 and a half inches off.”

Steve said Layla wanted to donate to Pantene once again, as they put the donated hair to use for wigs for woman affected by hair loss from cancer.

“We were looking at some of the sites and some of them don’t like the young kids hair for some reason. They sell it off, get the money and then use the money to get wigs,” Steve said.

“Layla didn’t like that. She wanted to send it somewhere where it actually got used.”

Steve said he is glad to see his daughter wanting to give back.

“It makes you very proud, that’s for sure,” he said.

“You wouldn’t think a seven-year-old would think to do that and like I said, this is her second time. It makes you very proud.”

Steve said cancer has hit close to home for them, as it has with many people.

“We all have relatives that have passed away with cancer and nobody likes to see that,” he said. “No one likes to see the outcome of taking radiation and chemo.”

Doing the honours with the scissors was Stacey Olah, Steve’s sister and Layla’s aunt, who is the co-owner of Fancy That in Wallaceburg.
