Former Wallaceburg Water Commissioner dies

The long-time Wallaceburg Water Commissioner has died.

Pat Moynihan passed away peacefully, with his family by his side on Sunday, February 5.

He was 89.

“The Patriarch of 34 Water Street, Pat will be fondly remembered for his love of the Christmas holidays, his annual fishing weekend with his boys, celebrating special family vacations at Rondeau Provincial Park, his love of duck hunting and an abiding partnership with his beloved wife, Marie,” read his obituary.

“Married in 1947 in Chatham, Ontario, Pat and Marie moved to Wallaceburg to open a clothing store specializing in men’s tailored suits. Energetic, determined and hardworking, he then began a successful career at Wallaceburg Brass where his business acumen carried him to the role of Vice-President and General Manager of Waltec Components and Vice-President Export & Custom Sales.”

After Moynihan retired in 1989, he served as a consultant for the Canadian Copper & Brass Development Association.

“His commitment and generosity to the community was unwavering as he served as Water Commissioner, School Board Trustee and was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus, the Jaycees, the K-40 Club and the Canadian Legion,” his obituary read.

After amalgamation in 1998, Wallaceburg’s water treatment plant was re-named The W.P. Moynihan Filtration Plant in honour of his years of service.

Moynihan was a father of six, a grandfather of 18 and a great-grandfather of 20.

His wife of 69 years Marie, died in November.

“Pat was friendly and always had a good story or joke. I will miss him especially at Christmas time when Pat would bring a little Baileys into the coffee shop to spruce up our coffee,” wrote Mike McNaughton on an online tribute wall.

“Will always remember Pat and Marie with their beautiful smiles and always a moment to chat,” wrote Dee and Gord Heath.

“My sympathy to Pat’s family. He has been a wonderful contribution to the town of Wallaceburg,” wrote Barb Thornton.

“Always remember his cheery outlook on life at Waltec brass 30 years ago. May he rest in peace,” wrote Jackie and Dave Burnett.

His funeral will be celebrated at Holy Family Church in Wallaceburg on Saturday, February 11 at 11 a.m.

The family will receive guests at the Church in the hour prior, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
