Home intruder arrested in Wallaceburg

A Wallaceburg man is in custody after breaking into a home in Wallaceburg.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say yesterday at 11:50 a.m. a man entered a rear, unlocked door of a house on Nelson Street in Wallaceburg.

Police say the homeowner was home at the time and it was his barking dog that brought his attention to the intruder.

The homeowner allegedly saw this man in his house and then followed him outside as the man had taken the owner’s hedge clippers.

Once outside, the man eventually dropped the hedge clippers and walked away.

Police were called.

At 12 p.m. a 36-year-old Wallaceburg man was located a short distance away.

He was arrested and charged with break and enter and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.

He was then transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he has been held for a bail hearing.
