A Wallaceburg woman was surprised on her way home on Wednesday night, after witnessing the beginning of a drug bust conducted by the Chatham-Kent Police Service.
Lisa Persyn told the Sydenham Current she was turning onto Murray street from Reaume Avenue at around 8:40 p.m.
“When I rounded the corner, I noticed some undercover police vehicles, SWAT vans, and police officers rushing into a home with weapons and safety vests on,” Persyn said.
“I was just about to drive by, when a loud bang and smoke scared me. The police must have used it upon entering the home. I stopped the car and backed up to where I felt safe. Once the SWAT team entered the building, I felt it was safe to drive past and continue home.”
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials confirmed with the Sydenham Current that last night at around 9 p.m. the Chatham-Kent Police Service Intelligence Section, assisted by the Critical Incident Response Team and the Police Dog Service, executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Search Warrant at a Wallaceburg residence.
As a result, a 33-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with a handful of drug offences.
The charges include:
– Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Hydromorphone)
– Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Methamphetamine)
– Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Cannabis Marihuana)
– Possession of a Controlled Substance (Cocaine)
– Possession of a Controlled Substance (Cannabis Resin)
The suspect was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters and later released with a court date of Thursday, June 29, 2017.
Persyn said she was impressed with the what she saw from the officers.
“It seemed the actions taken by the Chatham-Kent Police Service were very professional and deliberate,” she said.
“It is comforting to know they had everything under control to ensure the safety of the public.”
