Child pornography charges laid in Sarnia

A Sarnia man faces child pornography charges after a a four-month long investigation.

Police officials say on May 29, 2017, the Sarnia Police Service Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Investigation Unit entered into an investigation.

Police officials say a detective, from the Sarnia Police ICE Unit, received information from the National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre (NCECC) in Ottawa, Ontario, that pornographic images of a child had allegedly been uploaded in the City of Sarnia via an online chat room.

The initial incident dated back to April 22, 2017 and was confirmed to come from a Sarnia internet account.

As the investigation continued it was determined that on other dates pornographic images of children were uploaded, as well, police officials allege.

On September 27, 2017, a search warranted was executed at a residential address in the central part in the City of Sarnia.

During the warrant a 34-year-old male was arrested for possession of child pornography and several electronic devices were seized during the warrant for the purpose of forensic analysis.

Upon a thorough forensic analysis of the information located on the electronic devices the suspect was charged with five counts of possession of child pornography and three counts of possession and distribution of child pornography that occurred over a period of time that dated back from April 22, 2017 to July 17, 2017.

From the information gathered through the investigation there appears to be no local victims involved in this matter, police say.
