Canadians continue to fall victim to a number of scams.
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say they continue to receive calls regarding a variety of scams.
The following are recent scams brought to the attention of the Chatham-Kent Police Service:
– CRA SCAM – telephone calls from the CRA instructing people to purchase gift cards, such as iTunes gift cards. They are then further instructed to provide the iTunes code over the telephone.
– Telephone calls from Winners International Company requesting a cheque or money order be sent to a certain address.
– An e-mail instructing a person to click on a certain link. By doing so, this person would then be entitled to a refund on an e-transfer.
– A letter instructing a person to reply by way of e-mail with their personal banking information to obtain a large sum of money.
– Telephone calls instructing people to call a certain number pertaining to their debt. And that criminal charges will apply if they do not call the number provided.
“CKPS encourages everyone to click on the above mentioned links,” police officials stated in press release.
“This information is valuable and may save you or someone you love from becoming a victim of a fraud.

Call the police first:
– Before you provide any personal information to anyone!
– Purchase anything including gift cards, such as iTunes cards, that you’ve been instructed to purchase from someone you do not know!
– Before you send money to anyone!
