Seth scores for Amerks

Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith lit the lamp for the Rochester Americans on the weekend.

Griffith opened the scoring against Hartford at the 6:30 mark of the first period on Friday, December 1.

It was Griffith’s second game with the Amerks, since being sent down by the Buffalo Sabres.

Griffith finished the game with the 1 goal and 4 shots on net.

Rochester ended up losing in a shootout, 5-4.

Griffith picked up an assist against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton the following night. The Amerks won 5-2.

Rochester will play three straight road games this weekend, visiting Springfield, Hartford and Bridgeport on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Junior ‘C’ hockey

The Dresden Kings fell to Lakeshore on Friday night at home by a close score of 5-4.

Brantley Kuipers scored a pair to lead the Kings, while Darien Davis and Will Tetzlaff also scored.

Brendan Johnston made 27 saves in the loss.

The Kings are battling the Wallaceburg Lakers on Wednesday night, December 6.

Both team’s will play each other again on Friday night in Dresden.

Puck drops at 7:30 p.m. for both games.

High school boy’s basketball

In LKSSAA junior boys basketball action on Tuesday the McGregor Panthers topped the Wallaceburg Tartans 71-22. In senior action, the Panther beat the Tartans 33-28.

Over the weekend, the Chatham-Kent Wildcat Atom boys won their tournament in Newmarket.

After finishing second in last year’s tournament, the team was eager to return to the tournament finals.

They began the tournament with a win over Oakville.

Caleb Roberts led the way with 12 points and Adam Vsetula had 8.

In their second game, the Wildcats defeated Simcoe, led by Caleb Roberts with 15 and Nathan Valadares with 8.

The team finished pool play with a win over Thornhill, Caleb Roberts led the way with 16 and younger brother C.J added 10.

In the semi-final, the Wildcats ousted East York 43-27, the team was led by Adam Vsetula with 10 and Cristian Suffi chipped in with 9.

In a hard fought final, every player on the team reached the score sheet with a very balanced attack from the Wildcats in a 60-46 gold medal win.

High school curling

In LKSSAA varsity boy’s curling action on Tuesday, Wallaceburg beat the Great Lakes squD 9-2, while the Northern #1 team blanked the L-K Cardinals 19-0.

On Monday, St. Pat’s #1 topped the L-K Cardinals 17-0 and the Wallaceburg Tartans and the Northern #1 squad tied 5-5.

In girls action on Monday, the Wallaceburg Tartans topped the Northern #1 squad 7-3 and the Lambton-Kent Cardinals were blanked by the St. Pats #1 team, 8-0.

LKSSAA high school hockey

Jonny Vanek and Zander Wright scored for the L-K Cardinals, as they skated to a 2-2 draw with the McGregor Panthers in senior boys hockey action last week.

In girls action, Kaitlyn Isaac, Ferrah Blackbird and Eniya Gittens all scored for the Wallaceburg Tartans, but they fell 4-3 to C-K.
