ThunderHawks win home opener against Sharks

The Wallaceburg ThunderHawks were victorious in their home opener on Saturday night at Wallaceburg Memorial Arena.

In front of 322 fans at the revamped arena, Wallaceburg skated away with a 2-1 victory.

Jimmy Simpson scored the game winner on the powerplay at the 12:13 mark of the third period. Parker Hammond picked up an assist on the play.

Josh Remsik opened the scoring for the ThunderHawks at the 6:56 mark of the first period, with assists going to Noah Labonte and Austin Rajsigl.

Jacob Lister was solid between the pipes for Wallaceburg, making 23 saves in the victory.

Dawson Iles scored the lone goal for Wheatley in the second period.

The Sharks out-shot Wallaceburg 24-18.

Wallaceburg now has a 1-1-0 record on the season, while the Sharks own the same 1-1-0 record.

The ThunderHawks will be back on home ice on Wednesday night to begin a busy week, when they welcome the Mooretown Flags to town.

Puck drops at 7:30.

Wallaceburg will hit the road on Thursday and head to Petrolia to take on the Flyers. This game gets under way at 7:30 p.m.

Wallaceburg will then host the undefeated Lakeshore Canadiens on Saturday night, September 28 in Wallaceburg. Puck drops at 8 p.m.
