Michael and Patricia Cavanagh are the visionaries who brought the funeral home up to the current standard. They had a dream to own their own funeral home and searched for years for a fix-r-upper that they could call their own. Hank Haycock was retiring and looking to sell his business. After seeing the one-floor building that was built as a funeral home out of cinder block, they had the vision to recognize the potential. Mike and Pat bought the former Douglas-Haycock Funeral Home in 1983, changed the name to Haycock-Cavanagh and started knocking out walls, redecorating and expanding. In 1999, they bought the former Masonic Hall across the street, gutted the downstairs and turned it into a 200 seat banquet facility for funeral receptions. Pat still does the hairdressing and Michael, after 50 years as a licensed funeral director, still enjoys working visiting and funerals.
