Home decorating initiative launched in Lambton

The COVID-19: Volunteer Community Response Team, who serves the residents of Sombra, Port Lambton and Wilkesport, have launched an event to run throughout the month of May.

“To demonstrate support and appreciation for essential workers, front line responders, and our beautiful country of Canada,” the group said in a press release.

“Residents of Wilkesport, Sombra, and Port Lambton are encouraged to decorate their property to reflect this support and appreciation. Ideas may include things such as Canada themed decorations, blue and white ribbons (a symbol of appreciation for front line responders), or written signs of thanks, encouragement, or solidarity.”

The group says this event will run from Friday, May 1 through Sunday, May 31.

“Participants will be entered into weekly random prize draws,” the group says.

“Prizes will include various items such as gift cards, entertainment baskets, etc. Winners will be announced each Saturday at 12 p.m., beginning Saturday, May 11. Winners will be contacted directly and also through Our Port Lambton Community Facebook Page.”

Participants can submit their entries in a few different ways:

1. Through Facebook: Take a photo of your property, and post it on your Personal Facebook Page and title your photo “SHOW YOUR SUPPORT”. After posting to your personal page, please submit your entry through Facebook messenger to Jenn Baker.

2. By E-mail: Take a photo of your property, and send it by e-mail to: Suzannespisani@gmail.com.

3. By Phone: If you do not have access to social media but would like to submit an entry, you can contact Amanda Hay at 519-402-3832. Amanda will come and take a picture of your property and submit your entry for you.

“Now let’s go show our solidarity and support, but most importantly let’s have some fun with this,” the group says.

“Happy decorating.”

The group of volunteers in the St. Clair Township area have joined together to support the community since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, as various supports have been put in place for senior citizens, those in self-isolation, those with mobility challenges, people with compromised immune systems and those with young children.
