Dog tag enforcement starts August 24

Representatives from PAW Pet and Wildlife Rescue will begin dog tag enforcement across the municipality next week.

Animal control officers will be contacting dog owners who have not yet purchased their 2020 municipal dog tag, Municipal officials say.

Municipal dog tags can be purchased at the animal shelter in Chatham, at the Civic Centre, over the phone by calling 519-360-1998 or online at www.pawr.org. Tags purchased online or over the phone will be mailed out.

The Municipality’s Responsible Animal Ownership By-law #93-2015 requires that all dog owners must obtain municipal dog licences (tags) for their dogs each year. Residents who fail to purchase 2020 dog tags risk being fined $240.

The cost of a new dog tag is $38 per dog or $28 if sterilized along with a $10 late fee.

By-law enforcement officers will be identified by their PAW Rescue uniforms and identification name tag, and will be taking COVID precautions. In addition, the officers will be driving a vehicle marked with PAW Rescue Animal Control.

For more information on dog tags and animal control or if you no longer own a dog, contact the Municipality of Chatham-Kent at 519-360-1998.
