Fire on Fawn Island

St. Clair Township Fire Department officials say firefighters responded to a structure fire on Fawn Island on Sunday, October 11, 2020.

“Firefighters from Port Lambton, Wilkesport and Becher station arrived on scene and immediately commenced an offensive fire attack,” St. Clair Fire officials said on social media.

“The fire was extinguished without incident or injury. The cause of this fire has been deemed accidental.”

St. Clair Fire officials say the occupants had self-evacuated and called 911.

“The home was equipped with working smoke alarms,” fire officials say.

“St. Clair Fire would like to remind everyone that early detection and warning by smoke alarms provide you with more time to escape a fire. In addition to smoke alarms, developing and practicing a home fire escape plan is your best chance of surviving a fire in your home.”

St. Clair Fire officials added: “Thank you to the residents of Fawn Island for your support during this incident.”
