Firefighters respond to explosion in Chatham

The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating after a reported explosion in Chatham on Tuesday, November 10, 2020.

Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services officials say crews from Station #1 and #2 in Chatham responded to a “reported explosion in a transformer building” at a building located at 480 St. Clair Street.

“Once power was confirmed, isolated firefighters checked and cleared the building of smoke,” Fire officials tweeted, adding that there were no injuries.

The incident remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal.

The call came in just before 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
