Traffic stop in Leamington leads to multiple drug charges

Essex OPP officials allege: On January 5, 2021, at approximately 9:45 p.m. a member of Leamington Detachment Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Wigle Street in Leamington for a traffic-related offence.

During the traffic stop, the officer learned the driver was suspended from driving and not complying with conditions of a previous release order.

Further investigation resulted in a quantity of drugs being seized and stolen property located.

As a result of the investigation, police have charged:

A 37-year-old Leamington man with:

– Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine – Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)

– Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine – CDSA

– Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Other Drugs-CDSA

– Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court – Criminal Code of Canada (CC)

– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – CC

– The accused has also been charged with under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and one count under the Reopening Ontario Act (ROA).

A 53-year-old Chatham man with:

– Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine – CDSA

– Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine – CDSA

– Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Other Drugs-CDSA

– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Criminal Code of Canada (CC)

– The accused has also been charged with one count under the Reopening Ontario Act (ROA).

A 44-year-old Chatham woman with:

– Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine – CDSA

– Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine – CDSA

– Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Other Drugs-CDSA

– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Criminal Code of Canada (CC)

– The accused has also been charged with one count under the Reopening Ontario Act (ROA)

The accused have been released from police custody and are scheduled to appear in Leamington Ontario Court of Justice on March 8, 2021.
