Beat the winter blues by joining CKPL for fun, both on screen and off. During the month of February, Chatham-Kent Public Library is offering the following fun:

Virtual Author Visit

Chatham-Kent Public Library is hosting a Virtual Author Talk with Brock Greenhalgh, author of “Hard Road to Victory: The Chatham All-Stars Story.”

On Saturday, February 27 at 10:30 am. Brock’s presentation is approximately 45 minutes and best suited for children 8 years and older. Adults are also welcome.

Instructions regarding how to access the author talk will be emailed prior to the presentation.

In the fall of 1934, more than a decade before Jackie Robinson broke baseball’s colour barrier, a team of Black athletes blazed a trail for others to follow and earned the opportunity to compete for a major baseball championship.

Brock will discuss how this team overcame societal hurdles that still persist today.

Register through Ask CKPL: by phone (519.354.2940), by text (519.401.7174), by email (cklibrary@chatham-kent.ca) or by Facebook chat (@ckplibrary).

CK Reads

CK Reads is a community-wide book club where everyone in Chatham-Kent is invited to read the same book. Through discussions and programs, CK Reads hopes to bring the community closer together through a shared love of reading.

The 2021 CK Reads titles are “The Lost Ones” and “Fight Like a Girl” by Sheena Kamal! CKPL invites everyone to read “The Lost Ones”, book one in Kamal’s Nora Watts private investigator series set in Vancouver.

In “The Lost Ones” Nora and her dog Whisper set out to find the daughter Nora gave up for adoption 15 years earlier.

Lovers of Young Adult fiction are also encouraged to participate in this year’s CK Reads program by checking out Kamal’s “Fight Like a Girl”, which tells the story of Trisha who turns to Muay Thai kickboxing to break the cycle of violence that has affected her family for generations.

Storykits and Play Packs

Spend a weekend “in” with your family! Borrow a bag of books and add a storykit, play pack, board game or puzzle to encourage screen-free fun from CKPL!

Prefer a family movie night? We’ll select some DVDs, you provide the snacks!

If your family is the outdoor fun type, you might choose the “Sand and Snow Play Pack” or borrow snowshoes along with an Ontario Park Pass for your family fun!

Park Passes

Chatham-Kent Public Library (CKPL) members can borrow a 2021 Ontario Parks Annual Vehicle Permit from any of our 11 branches.

Passes are loaned for 7 days and provide day use access to all Ontario Provincial Parks.

Passes can be requested online and a limited number of passes will also be available as part of CKPL’s Express Collection.

Express Collection items are loaned on a “first come first served” basis – please ask if one is available at Curbside Service at your branch!

Passes were provided by Ontario Parks as part of their library day-use vehicle lending program.

The motivation behind this program is to help Ontarians spend more time in nature.

A wide body of research supports the idea that time spent in nature has significant benefits for our mental and physical health.

Curbside Service

Curbside Service continues at all 11 library branches.
