‘Overwhelming demand’ at COVID-19 vaccine clinic in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit officials say “due to overwhelming demand” they are temporarily closing the COVID-19 vaccination call centre at this time “to give our team the ability to return your voicemails and book Chatham-Kent residents over the age of 80 for COVID-19 vaccinations.

“We appreciate your patience and understanding. We are moving as quickly as we can. We will provide regular updates as they arise,” CK Public Health officials posted on social media at 10:22 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2021.

Carina Caryn, from CK Public Health, said she wanted to thank everyone for their patience on Saturday.

“I know things are busy, we’re busy here at the clinic today,” Caryn said in a video posted on social media.

“If you have called our phone lines… we will get back to you. You will get a call if you left a message. We have a very full day here at the clinic. We’re excited to welcome everyone here. It has been a great day so far. We really do thank you for your patience… and I hope everyone stays strong and stays safe.”

CK Public Health officials said on Friday that the Chatham-Kent Vaccination Team would begin administering the Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to residents of Chatham-Kent 80 years of age and older starting on Saturday.

The booking centre was set to start taking calls at 8:30 a.m., public health officials say.

The vaccination clinic is being held at the John D. Bradley Centre at 565 Richmond Street in Chatham.

The clinic is by appointment only and drop-ins are not permitted.

Scheduled appointments were set to run from 9 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Pre-registration is required and appointments can only be booked by calling 519-351-1010.

Please do not call your doctor’s office or the Bradley Centre location, CK Public Health officials added.

“The Vaccination Team is continuing to vaccinate the priority population in Phase 1 of Chatham-Kent’s vaccination plan,” CK Public Health officials say.

“Family and friends of adults 80 years of age and older are encouraged to support their loved one(s) in pre-registering for an appointment.”
