C-K Library eliminates fines on children’s material

Chatham-Kent Public Library has eliminated overdue fines on all children’s material.

“CKPL is committed to children’s literacy and is pleased to take another measure toward supporting families, early literacy and learning by removing a long-standing barrier to service and increasing equitable access to literacy in our community,” library officials said in a media release.

“Starting March 1, 2021, children’s materials can be borrowed fine free from any branch of Chatham-Kent Public Library. Children’s materials will not be charged fines if returned late. Borrowed materials should still be returned, as others are often waiting for them, and replacement fees will apply if the item is not returned for an extended period.”

Children’s materials that Chatham-Kent Public Library offers include books, DVDs, books on CD, Playaway Views, Launchpads, magazines, storykits, and play packs, library officials say.

“Help CKPL celebrate by borrowing a bag of books, trying a new storykit or borrowing a puzzle from your local Chatham-Kent Public Library branch,” library officials say.
