Police: Suspected explosive device seized, weapons charges laid

Disturbance leads to domestic and weapon related charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police responded to a disturbance at a residence in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that around 7 p.m. the man attended the area where a woman and her adult son live, even though he was on conditions not to communicate with the son or be within 100 meters of him.

The man threatened the son, while in possession of a knife, as the son was preventing the man from continuing to harass his mother.

A second man was also threatened as the man was asked to leave the area.

The man returned shortly after 9 p.m. in possession of a suspected pipe bomb and threatened to blow up the neighbourhood.

The son was able to take possession of the suspected explosive device as the man fled the scene in his vehicle.

The explosive device was secured by police and determined not to be a threat or safety concern.

The 60-year-old Rodney man was located shortly after 4 a.m. this morning and taken into custody.

He has been charged with numerous domestic and weapon related offences.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man charged with failing to comply

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, police located a woman in a hotel room in Wallaceburg who was wanted in connection with two theft related incidents.

She was arrested and held in custody pending a bail hearing.

She was released with a future court date of March 21, 2021.

Through investigation, police learned that a man was staying with the woman even though he was currently bound by conditions not to communicate with her or be within 50 meters of her.

The 34-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions.

He was remanded into custody pending a bail hearing on March 11, 2021.

Man charged with failing to comply

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 1:30 a.m. this morning, police responded to a disturbance at a residence in Chatham.

Through investigation, police found the man in the woman’s bedroom and he was taken into custody as he was currently on conditions not to communicate with the woman.

The 40-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with failing to comply with his release conditions.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Theft of car parts in Raleigh Township

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime yesterday morning between 12:30 a.m. and 4 a.m. unknown suspects entered the compound at Riegling Bros on Seventh Line and stole about 20 catalytic converters from vehicles on the lot.

Damage has been estimated at $50,000 and total value of the theft is approximately $30,000.
