Police: Robbery arrest, drug bust, impaired driving, fraud, theft

Update: Robbery in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: The Chatham-Kent Police have made an arrest in connection with a robbery that occurred at the Shell Gas Station on St. Clair Street early Sunday morning.

As previously released, the man entered the store to buy cigarettes and lottery tickets.

As the cashier asked the man to pay for the items, valued at $275, the man brandished a weapon, stole the items and fled the scene.

Yesterday morning, police released a photo of the suspect requesting the public’s assistance in identifying him.

Through the power of social media, the man was identified and taken into custody yesterday afternoon.

The 29-year-old Chatham man has been charged with robbery and two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to thank the public for their assistance as community safety requires everyone to work together.

Police execute search warrant in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Intelligence Section executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act warrant at a residence on Princess Street North.

Approximately $3,100 worth of suspected fentanyl, MDMA, methamphetamine and crack cocaine was seized along with digital scales, Canadian currency and drug packaging materials.

A 52-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with:

– possession for the purposes of trafficking x2

– drug possession x2

– failing to comply with his release conditions

A 44-year-old Chatham resident was arrested and charged with:

– possession for the purposes of trafficking x2

– drug possession

Both were released pending a future court date of April 15, 2021.

Pair charged with theft and fraud related offences

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Early Monday morning, unknown suspects entered two vehicles in the Daylight Point and Twilight Trail area in Chatham.

A truck was also stolen from the neighbourhood.

The suspects used a stolen credit card from one of the vehicles to make several purchases at gas stations and convenience stores in Chatham.

The stolen truck was later found abandoned in a parking lot on Tweedsmuir Avenue with significant damage.

With the assistance of video surveillance, the men were identified.

Last night, both men were arrested and charged with several theft and fraud related offences.

The 28-year-old man of no fixed address and 27-year-old Chatham man have both been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man arrested twice in same day

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On March 17, 2021 s man was released from custody with several conditions.

One of those conditions stated that he was not to communicate with a specific Wallaceburg man.

Yesterday afternoon, the man attended the area where the Wallaceburg man lives and yelled at him while in the parking lot.

Police were called and the man was arrested.

While in custody, the man caused approximately $500 to the rear of the cruiser.

The 26-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with failing to comply with his release conditions and mischief under $5,000.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing and released from court with several conditions.

Last night, the man returned to the same area in Wallaceburg regardless of being on conditions not to attend that area.

He was arrested again and charged with failing to comply with his release conditions.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man charged with impaired driving

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police responded to the area of Communication Road in regards to a possible impaired driver.

An officer on general patrol located the vehicle and a traffic stop was initiated.

Through investigation, the officer believed the man was driving while under the influence of a drug.

The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters where a Drug Recognition Expert conducted an evaluation.

As a result, the DRE officer believed the man was impaired by a drug.

A search incident to arrest found the man to be in possession of suspected fentanyl and large amount of cash.

A 41-year-old Highgate man was charged with impaired driving and possession for the purposes of trafficking.

He was released pending a future court date of April 8, 2021.

Man charged with assault

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police responded to a disturbance at a residence in Tilbury.

Through investigation, police learned that a verbal argument between two men, known to each other, resulted in the accused spitting in the victim’s face.

The 34-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested and charged with assault.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Woman charged with breaching her curfew

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On June 1, 2020 the woman was released from court with several conditions.

One of those conditions stated that she was to obey a daily curfew of 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Around 12:30 a.m. this morning, police responded to the report of a suspicious man and woman in the area of Erie Street North in Wheatley.

Police located the pair and through investigation, learned that the woman was currently bound by a curfew.

The 40-year-old Wheatley woman was arrested and charged with failing to comply with her release conditions.

She was released pending a future court date of April 16, 2021.

The woman was also wanted by OPP and turned over to OPP officers for court purposes.

Stolen van in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime yesterday morning between midnight and 1 a.m. unknown suspects stole a 2013 white Dodge Caravan from a residence on Horizon Lane in Chatham.

The van was last seen with Ontario license plates CEPM 088.
