‘April Break’ activities planned at the Chatham-Kent Public Library

The Wallaceburg Branch, along with the other branches of the Chatham-Kent Public Library, has got your back this April Break.

Library officials say they have fun activities to do and awesome materials to borrow to keep the kids
entertained while they are at home for the week.

Storybook Trail

April Break is a great time to get outside and enjoy time together! A new story, “When it Starts to Snow” can be found on the Storybook Trail at Crothers Park in Wallaceburg.

Participating branches across Chatham-Kent are offering Walk-A-Story.

Read a different story in downtown Blenheim, Bothwell, Dresden, Ridgetown, Thamesville and Wheatley until the end of Spring Break!

Animal LitBit & Scavenger Hunt

Engage in songs and rhymes with your favourite CKPL friends! Then complete an animal scavenger hunt using CKPL’s database “PebbleGo.” LitBit and Scavenger Hunt will be posted to CKPL’s facebook page, @ckplibrary, on Monday at 8:00 am. For those without social media, printed scavenger hunts pages can be picked up curbside at your local CKPL branch.

Virtual Pet Show & Tell

Calling all animal lovers! Join us on Monday, April 12 at 10:00 am or Thursday, April 15 at 1:30 pm to show off your pet. Registration is required, and can be done through Ask CKPL or at your local CKPL branch.

Simple Crafts

Visit your local library branch throughout the week to pick up a new craft to do at home. Borrow these items from any CKPL location:

Storykits & Play Packs – These kits contain literacy and physical activity toys, puppets, storytelling props, books and more to keep you busy and learning.

Puzzles – From 6 pieces to 1000 pieces, we have a puzzle that fits every member of your family!

Board Games – Quality board games to enjoy at home!

Launchpads – Tablets pre-loaded with content for kids and designed with a simple, easy-to-use interface. 100% secure, no download time and no need for wifi!

Tales in a Tote for Tots or Teens!

Request your tote of 20 titles by calling the Wallaceburg Branch at 519.627.5292. Every tote comes with a craft! Bags can also include DVDs, magazines, audiobooks, and more.

Children borrow fines-free at Chatham-Kent Public Library! Borrow children’s material from any CKPL branch and don’t worry about late fines!

CKPL Seed Library

Wallaceburg Branch is offering a seed library! Chatham Kent Public Library members can borrow seeds for free, save the seeds they grow, and return some of the seeds back to the library at the end of the growing season.

CKPL Seed Library provides an opportunity for residents of Chatham-Kent to grow healthy gardens, have access to affordable food and create beautiful spaces in their own back yards and local communities. 5 packages per library card, must have a valid library card to check out.

Who Has the Greener Thumb?

Who will grow the biggest sunflowers and pumpkins? Chatham-Kent or Essex gardeners? Pick up your seeds from your local library, plant and grow! Then take pictures and send us your giant beauties!
