The former Navistar site, located on Richmond Street in Chatham, has been sold.
Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff confirmed the news in a video posted on social media on Tuesday, April 28, 2021.
“For a number of years, the previous site of Navistar on Richmond Street in Chatham has been vacant,” Mayor Canniff posted on social media.
“I am thrilled to announce that today, the property was officially purchased by local business people. We’re looking forward to hearing about the plans for the development in the coming weeks.”
The Mayor said this news means the site can now be developed.
“I’m looking forward to hearing all of the exciting plans from the new local owners,” Mayor Canniff said in the video.
“Over the next few weeks we’ll be waiting earnestly to hear from them. They will share all of the wonderful opportunities they see here. What an exciting time for Chatham-Kent.
The former plant closed in 2011 and the demolition of the facility began in 2013.
