A volunteer clean-up of the Sydenham River in Wallaceburg is set for Saturday, May 29, 2021.
Sally Joyce, who spearheaded a similar initiative back in October, says she is encourages people to come by canoe or kayak, or to participate wearing waders or boots.
The clean-up will take place between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and people are being encouraged to meet at the corner of Wallace and Huron Streets in Wallaceburg.
“It is a good time to give back to the waters that support us,” the event organizers said on the Facebook page created for the event.
“Put on your PPE, paddle on over to the Municipal boat launch and join in the efforts to remove trash and recyclables from the waters and shores of the Sydenham River in the Wallaceburg area.”
Organizers added: “Collecting waste is easier with net laundry bags – they let water flow through and they float behind you as you are working – bring those along if you have them.”
Trash and recyclables will be collected on the property just North of the boat launch, organizers added.
“Last fall we collected over 600 pounds of waste from the river, let’s keep up the good work,” organizers say.
