Kourtny Audette pleads guilty to manslaughter in the death of Nick Laprise

A Wallaceburg woman, who was accused of first-degree murder, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Kourtny Audette, 28, was facing charges in connection with the April 2018 death of Nick Laprise, of Dover Centre.

Multiple published reports indicate Audette appeared in Chatham court via video link on Friday, August 6, 2021 and entered a guilty plea to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Reports say the court heard that Laprise died from a stab wound to the chest.

More details can be found, here and here.

As previously released by the Chatham-Kent Police Service, police officials alleged that on April 18, 2018 at around 6:30 p.m. emergency crews responded to a residence at 57 Book Street in Wallaceburg where a man was found without vital signs.

Laprise, who was 24-years-old, was pronounced dead at the scene, police say.

Police called the incident “not a random act of violence” as Audette and Laprise were known to each other.

The case had been delayed multiple times, as Audette underwent phycological evaluations.

She has been in custody since the incident took place over three years ago.

The matter is set to return to court on August 20, 2021 to set a date for sentencing submissions to be heard, reports say.
