Disturbance leads to arrests

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that a verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation.

The man was not physically injured.

The woman was transported to hospital for medical attention.

She was treated and released.

The 25-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm and two counts of failing to comply with his Probation Order as he was currently bound by conditions not to communicate with the woman or attend her home.

The 27-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

She was also arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Both have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man charged with being in possession of prohibited weapon

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 4:30 a.m. this morning, police responded to the report of a man, in possession of a knife, walking on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg.

Officers located the man and through investigation learned that he was in possession of a prohibited weapon.

A 33-year-old Walpole Island man was arrested and charged with being in possession of a prohibited weapon and being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He was released pending a future court date of October 27, 2021.

Woman charged with impaired driving

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police responded to a suspicious vehicle parked in a private lane on Tenth Line.

Through investigation, police believed the woman was driving while under the influence of alcohol.

The woman was arrested and transported to police headquarters for breath tests where she refused to provide a sample.

A 36-year-old Blenheim woman was charged with impaired driving, refusing to provide a breath sample and driving while prohibited.

She was released pending a future court date of October 20, 2021.

Man charged with theft

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, police responded to a theft complaint at a local business on Grand Avenue West in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that the man attended the store, regardless of previously being trespassed.

Upon police arrival, officers found the man in possession of stolen items.

The 30-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.

He was released pending a future court date of October 19, 2021.

Stolen truck in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime between Monday at 11 p.m. and Tuesday at 6 a.m. unknown suspects stole a blue 2004 Chevrolet Silverado from a residence on Patteson Avenue.

The truck was last seen with Ontario license plates BD4 7153.

Around 11:30 a.m. yesterday morning, the stolen vehicle was located on King Street in Wallaceburg.

Man charged with driving while under suspension

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, an officer on general patrol observed a man driving on St. Clair Road near Pioneer Line.

The officer recognized the man, who is known to have his driving privileges suspended for unpaid fines.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and the 52-year-old Wallaceburg man was charged with driving while under suspension and driving with no insurance.

He will be required to attend Provincial Offences Court on October 20, 2021.

His vehicle was towed from the scene.

Man charged with assault

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Monday afternoon, police responded to a disturbance on Wellington Street West in Chatham, between two men known to each other.

Through investigation, police learned that the man spit at the other man during a verbal argument.

The 34-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with assault.

He was released pending a future court date of October 19, 2021.

Stolen vehicle in Wheatley

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime between Sunday at 7 p.m. and Monday at 6 a.m. unknown suspects stole a white 2018 Jeep Compass from a residence on Little Street.

The vehicle was last seen with Ontario license plates BRWP 117.

Theft from vehicle in Wallaceburg

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime between Sunday at 11 p.m. and Monday at 5:45 a.m. unknown suspects entered a truck that was parked on Larkwood Street and stole:

– Husqvarna soft-cut 150 concrete saw

– Stihl 14” concrete saw

– Stihl 12” concrete saw

– Stihl 9” concrete saw

– Marshalltown hand floats

– Marshalltown 6″ concrete edgers

– Marshalltown permashape finishing trowels

Total value of the theft has been estimated at $10,000.

Break and enter in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime between Friday at 5 p.m. and Monday at 8 a.m. unknown suspects forced their way into a fenced compound on Queen Street.

Once inside, the suspects cut the lock to a sea container and stole approximately 1700 pounds of 2” copper / lead wires that were set aside for disposal.

Man charged with mischief endangering life

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On Sunday night, around 9 p.m. the man forced his way into a multi-unit dwelling on Wellington Street in Chatham.

The man, known to one of the tenants, threatened to burn the house down as he left items on the stove.

The man also placed a garbage bin and shopping cart, outside a door, blocking tenants from exiting.

Thankfully, the tenant was able to remove the items from the stove before a fire started.

Through investigation, the man responsible was identified and located a short distance away.

The 41-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with:

– Break and enter with intent to commit arson

– Mischief endangering life

– Uttering threats

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Woman charged with facilitating a breach

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On Sunday night, police responded to a disturbance at a motel on Grand Avenue East in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that the woman was staying with a man who was currently on conditions not to communicate with her.

The 34-year-old woman, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with facilitating a breach. She was released pending a future court date of October 15, 2021.

Police continue to look for the man, who was failing to comply with his release conditions.

Woman charged with domestic related offences

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Early Monday morning, police responded to a disturbance on Queen Street in Tilbury.

Through investigation, police learned that the woman assaulted her boyfriend.

The 18-year-old Windsor woman was arrested and charged with assault.

She remains in police custody this morning.

Break and enter in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime between September 15 and September 17, unknown suspects entered a residence on Monarch Drive and stole 13 gold and silver rings.

Traffic enforcement

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sunday, police conducted traffic enforcement on Erie Shore Drive regarding complaints of vehicles speeding and driving the wrong way.

No infractions were observed, however we would like to remind drivers that enforcement initiatives will continue in an effort to keep all road users safe.

Motor vehicle collisions

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sunday morning, police responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Selton Line between Kenesserie Road and Glassford Road.

The driver was transported to hospital for medical attention.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000.

The collision remains under investigation.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sunday afternoon, police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Kent Bridge Road near Rose Beach Line.

Two people were transported to hospital for medical attention.

A 63-year-old Chatham woman was charged with disobeying a stop sign.

Total damage was estimated at $45,000.

Police also received two reports of collisions with wildlife.

We would like to remind motorists to use extra caution when travelling during dawn and dusk hours, when wildlife are more active and most collisions occur.

Being aware and taking precautions can reduce collisions, save lives and protect wild animals:

– Scan the road ahead, from shoulder to shoulder

– Use high beams at night, when possible, to watch for glowing eyes of animals

– If you see one animal cross the road, expect to see more as others may follow

– Stop as safely as possible. Never swerve suddenly as this could cause you to lose control of your vehicle and result in a more serious collision
