Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services officials say firefighters responded to a blaze on Brigden Road near Tupperville on Monday, November 1, 2021.
“Station #5 Tupperville, along with Station #6 Dresden, were called to a home on Brigden Road at 2:39 p.m. (on Monday) for reports of a two-storey house on fire,” fire officials said in a press release.
“A firefighter from outside the area was traveling Brigden Road and noticed the smoke and flames coming from the side of the house. The firefighter stopped to alert the homeowner and child who were home at the time. Firefighters are crediting the quick actions by their colleague for getting everyone out of the home safely.”
Fire officials say the blaze was contained to the outside of the home, firefighters removed several sections of the exterior wall to extinguish hot spots and ensure the fire had not spread further.
There were approximately $15,000 in damages and $400,000 in property was saved, fire officials added.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and no injuries were reported.
“Protect your family from fire and carbon monoxide by having working smoke alarms on every level of your home and working CO alarms outside all sleeping areas (if your home has any fuel burning appliances, a fireplace, or an attached garage),” fire officials say.
