Active COVID-19 case count rises to 159, 11 hospitalized, nine outbreaks

Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit officials updated the ‘current status’ page of their website on Monday, December 13, 2021.

The active COVID-19 case count rose to 159 over the weekend, seven more than on Friday.

A total of 11 people with COVID-19 from Chatham-Kent are hospitalized, one more than on Friday.

The total number of COVID-19 cases is 3,220 across Chatham-Kent, 61 more than on Friday.

A total of 3,036 cases have been resolved.

A total of 67 active cases are linked to close contact, 38 cases are unknown, 31 cases have information pending, 22 cases are outbreak related and one is linked to travel.

Dr. David Colby, the Medical Officer of Health in Chatham-Kent, provided some instructions regarding capacity limits and additional requirements in a letter issued on Monday, December 6, 2021. Read the full letter, here.

Public health officials say nine outbreaks are active across Chatham-Kent:

– An outbreak at Gregory Drive Public School in Chatham, declared on December 11, 2021, involves two cases.

– An outbreak at Tilbury Area Public School, declared on December 8, 2021, involves three cases.

– An outbreak at Elementary School Catholic Saint-Marie in Chatham, declared on December 6, 2021, involves four cases.

– An outbreak at a private event, declared on December 2, 2021, involves 17 cases.

– An outbreak at Harwich Raleigh Public School in Blenheim, declared on December 2, 2021, involves three cases.

– An outbreak at an un-named manufacturing workplace, declared on December 2, 2021, involves eight cases.

– An outbreak at St. Anne Catholic School in Blenheim, declared on December 2, 2021, involves two cases.

– An outbreak at Dresden Area Central School, declared on November 30, 2021, involves three cases.

– An outbreak at an un-named place of worship, declared on November 15, 2021, involves 13 cases.

CK Public Health officials say the Delta variant continues to be the predominant circulating variant of concern in Chatham-Kent and Ontario.

“The majority of current cases among people living in CK have initial mutation screening results in line with the Delta variant,” public health officials added.

Public health officials say a total of 162,404 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to date, 82,082 people 5+ have received at least one dose and 77,988 people 5+ have received two doses.

Since the pandemic began in March of 2020, a total of 25 Chatham-Kent residents have died from COVID-19.
