A $1.6-million rehabilitation of Wallaceburg’s walking bridge is being recommended to Municipality of Chatham-Kent Council.
“The LO Stonehouse Walking Bridge in the community of Wallaceburg was closed on November 10, 2021 due to public safety concerns,” Municipal officials said in a media release.
“The Municipality has retained Dillon Consulting to complete a detailed condition assessment of the bridge. To ensure continued public safety, it is being recommended that the structure remain closed until a comprehensive rehabilitation of the bridge has been completed.”
Municipal officials added: “Chatham-Kent Engineering is bringing a report to Council on March 28, 2022 that will seek approval to move forward with rehabilitation at an estimated cost of $1.6-million. If approved, design activities will commence in 2022, with construction to be completed in 2023.”
Municipal officials also thanked the public for their patience during the necessary closure.
