An estimated $200,000 damage was caused after a fire in Erieau on Monday, July 11, 2022.
“Station #18 – Blenheim, Station #14 – Erieau, Station #16 – Raleigh South responded to 18878 Erieau Road along with a tanker from Station #12 – Harwich for a reported structure fire,” fire officials said in a media release.

“When crews arrived, they found a two-story home with fire showing through the lower windows and doors. High winds pushed the fire into the attic space and firefighters were called out of the structure into a defensive attack position just prior to the flames breaking through the roof.”
Fire officials added: “An excavator was later brought in to help extinguish the deep-seated fire and tear down the remains of the partially collapsed structure.”
The single occupant who was home at the time of the fire was able to escape the home safely with two dogs, however, they reported another dog and a pet rabbit were still in the home and sadly perished in the fire, fire officials say.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and damage is pegged at $200,000.
No injuries were reported.
“Firefighters would like to say thank you to the community for bringing food and coolers of cold water to the crews while they were on scene,” fire officials say.
